Isherwood + Ellis developed a sensitive and sustainable design solution for the conversion of the grade B1 listed former Mersey St Primary School to provide 30 residential properties and community facilities for Connswater Homes. Through minimal intervention the design solution retained the historical character, integrity and architectural beauty of the original building. The conversion was made more challenging for its location within a development control zone to George Best Belfast City airport. The outcome provides much needed social housing and community facilities and will ensure that this part of Belfast’s built heritage will be retained for the benefit of future generations for many years to come.
