I+E are delighted to announce Arvalee Special School was the winner of the Building in Use Award at the recent CEF Construction Excellence Awards 2021.

Arvalee was completed in 2017 and was delivered in partnership with Woodvale Construction. The award champions the use of rigorous detailing and intelligent material specification, which combined with high quality construction methodologies, delivers robust architecture which stands the test of time several years after opening.

Arvalee was also shortlisted for an RSUA Design Award in 2018. The recognition of the school’s design and inhabitation is an example of the importance of design quality design and construction in educational environments, in particular, for pupils with Special Educational Needs.

The Partners & Staff at Isherwood + Ellis warmly congratulate Jennifer Speirs and Shauneen Donaghy on their recent success in their Professional Practice Exams and their onward path to registration as qualified architects.

After retiring from a career in show business as a set designer for television programmes, Jennifer joined the practice as a part two architectural assistant in January 2018 after completing her MArch at QUB and was a key member of the team delivering the National Maternity Hospital in Dublin and refurbishment of NIAO Offices.

Shauneen joined the practice in September 2015 to undertake her part one professional experience after completing a BA Hons at QUB. After returning to QUB to complete her MArch, Shauneen re–joined I+E in September 2018 as a part two architectural assistant and was a key member of the team delivering the New Children’s Hospital at RVH and a range of education projects.

Isherwood + Ellis are delighted to announce the opening of the Non Clinical Support Building located within the Royal Victoria Hospital campus, designed in conjunction with AECOM.

The new 3 storey facility was completed in September 2019 and houses a number of support services for the Hospital, whilst serving as a base for the Belfast Health and Social Care Trust Estates Team.  Floors are zoned to allow for the Receipt & Distribution and Estates Workshops to be located at level 1, and Administration accommodation at levels 2 and 3.  Level access is provided at level 1 and 2 due to the level change across the site.  The upper floors are accessible by staff only, and comprise open plan office accommodation with a series of bookable meeting rooms located at each level.  Staff dining areas with a south facing aspect which afford views over the City are located at each of the upper levels.
